Empire block, downtown Edmonton, AB

Black and white photograph of the Empire Block building in downtown Edmonton. The building was constructed by McDougall and Secord, Ltd. in 1905 and served as both an office and retail space. The main floor of the building was originally occupied by Liggett's Owl Drugs Company Ltd., with the upper three floors reserved for offices. In 1962 the building was torn down in by the McDougall-Secord Company to make room for the Empire Building, which was eleven storeys high. The new building was completed in 1963.
