Matteotti

Photograph of the Italian socialist politician Giacomo Matteotti (1885-1924), who was murdered by fascists for his opposition to Mussolini. On May 30, 1924 Matteotti spoke out in Parliament against the fraud he believed the fascists had committed during the elections and for their use of violence. Eleven days after his speech he was kidnapped and killed by fascist supporters. This photograph was taken circa 1924.
